How image resizing works
Your image is drawn onto an HTML canvas at the target width and height, then exported back out as a new image file. Making an image smaller reduces its pixel dimensions and file size; enlarging it stretches the existing pixels, so upscaling can look soft. Lock the aspect ratio to keep the original proportions and avoid stretching.
PNG vs JPEG vs WebP
PNG is lossless and supports transparency — best for logos, screenshots, and graphics. JPEG is lossy and has no transparency, but is small and universally supported — best for photographs. WebP usually gives the smallest file at similar quality and supports transparency, though a few older apps don't read it. For lossy formats, the quality slider trades file size against visual detail.
Your image stays in your browser
This tool decodes and resizes your image entirely on your device. Nothing is uploaded, stored, logged, or tracked. There is no account, no watermark, and no external service in the middle — you can even use it offline.
